I have a couple of wedding shoots coming up at the end of this month. My first weddings ever! Both are happening in the early evening, exactly when the light is changing the most. So to be prepared, a good photographer friend generously lent me a bunch of equipment, including his flash. I have steered clear of using a flash mostly because, well, it’s just something else to consider when composing a portrait. I prefer the simple. The natural. BUT. I took the girls out back tonight and, let me tell you, we had FUN! I took a workshop years ago that included a night shoot with flash and it all came back to me. I might be making a flash purchase in the very near future. Here are some fun shots from tonight…

Just warming up…

This may be my favorite. Timing was everything here.

I just think these look cool because the house looks on fire. Not that if it actually was, that would be cool. The effect is cool. You know what I’m getting at.

I have to give credit though. The inspiration for the curly, squiggly lights came from one of my favorite wedding photographers, Jonas Peterson. Have a look. He takes my breath away.

Yes camping. For the first time. (I had all this funny commentary typed in, then it disappeared because  I forgot to hit save.) So, can you use your imagination because it’s late and I’m tired and this blog post has taken more time than is rationally acceptable?

Book your holiday mini session now

Getting the perfect photo for your holiday card and as gifts for relatives can be stressful. Or, you wait until the last minute and we all know how that goes. Believe it or not, I’ve been there! I’m terrible about planning my own kids’ portraits. So, because a few of you have asked if I’d do a holiday session…here it is.

Hopefully I’ve made it simple. You will see up to 10 custom-edited images to choose from in a private, online gallery. Then, you choose 2 digital image files (3 digital files if you’ve had a Family Session), which you’ll receive on a CD to do with as you please. Print them as gifts for relatives, design your holiday cards, and share them on Facebook. You can also purchase additional digital images. If you prefer the convenience of having someone take care of all this for you, professional-quality prints and holiday cards (minus the stamp-licking and mailing) are available a la carte as well. Please note the Children’s Session is for up to 2 children; the Family Session is up to 4 people. Beyond that it is an additional $25/person.

Email me any questions, and to book your time slot. I look forward to hearing from you!

It was a long time coming for this photo shoot – mom and dad really wanted it to happen at their beach house, which I was all to willing to oblige. It didn’t hurt that I also happened to be there on vacation at the same time. The O sisters are super sweet and were a complete delight to photograph. The older sister, G, I found to be especially entertaining as she “posed” for me. Little sis, MK, wanted to see every image I shot immediately after taking it. So needless to say there was a lot of running back and forth for her. Here are some of my favorites from the beach and marshland by their home. Thanks again O family!

Each year, my dad’s side of the family vacations in Sea Isle City, New Jersey.  It’s a large Irish Catholic family that likes to have fun. I’m sure you know the type. The last few years my sister has been asking me to take her family portraits there. This year was no different, except that it was mega-windy. We figured we’d give it a go and see what we’d get. Here are few from that day…
