On our way home from a recent camping trip, we took a few back roads to avoid traffic and to make the drive a bit more scenic. I realized we were about to drive by the reception site from our wedding nearly 13 years ago, so we made a quick detour.  I haven’t been there since our wedding. I would love to see how it’s changed. In early November when we got married it was gorgeous. Autumn colors. Cool breeze.

I was so thrilled to see that it is just as gorgeous. Flowers everywhere. A little waterfall trickling in the background from the miniature duck pond. A beautiful historic stone house in the background. Then it hit me. THIS would be a great spot for photo shoots! And I’m adding it to my arsenal of secret locations….

I love the beach. I used to spend a full day roasting and tanning, turning over in equal increments for even color. Unfortunately melanoma now keeps me under the umbrella. In a way, it’s a relief. I’m not hot and I feel no pressure to be tan. I could never give up the beach completely, especially when this super fun family asked me to travel to Cape May for their session. Here are some of my favorites…

Before one part of this extended family relocated to Texas, they wanted portraits to take with them. So one steamy summer day behind the Art Museum,  we dodged wedding photographers and bright, glaring sun. It really is a beautiful location for picture taking…the gazebo, Boathouse Row, azalea gardens and the Schuylkill River make great backdrops.

I shot mom’s maternity photos just a few short weeks before little Louisa made her appearance. Although it was about 6 weeks before we could get together again, we had fun. And, bonus! I didn’t get peed on during this shoot!

Miss Louisa is quite alert, to the dismay of mom who also has a 22 month old to contend with, and to me who was hoping for some sleeping images. But, if she’s awake and alert than that’s how she should be portrayed. Plus, I’m all to familiar with that level of pressure – entertaining the newborn and the toddler. Here are some photos from our non-sleepy photo shoot…
