I have known mom-to-be for quite a few years through a friend. We had all been to a Girls Dinner a few times and had lots of laughs. And wine. I hadn’t seen her since she met and married her husband a year or so ago. Then I ran into her while I was grabbing lunch one day. She was pregnant and gorgeous! So here we are. Now with just two weeks before her due date, I wanted to post her maternity photos before we had new baby photos to share. These are a few of my favorites from our session.
I don’t usually take pictures of flowers. I’ve never really been drawn to them. But there’s something different about a macro image. When you can see something so super close, it’s a whole different world. I really got this lens to take macro images of baby’s eyelashes, lips, toes, etc. With no new babies at my immediate disposal, I turned to my next available option…
I was so happy to get an email from the Hearts Apart organization for a newborn photography session in Philadelphia. Finally, I get to do some good in the world! This little one is 3 1/2 weeks old. His new daddy has been in Kuwait since October and won’t be home until this September. He was able to be at the birth through Skype.
I can’t even imagine how hard that must have been.
He and his mom are surrounded by lots of love and support. I’m sure the time will go by quickly.
If you know a family in the military, tell them about Hearts Apart. Through this organization, volunteer photographers provide them with a free session.
Here are some of my favorites from this session…
This month’s challenge, “Interesting Perspectives,” was difficult. I really wanted to do something original but it just wasn’t coming to me. So this weekend while at my Dad’s, I had my daughter sit on the end of the dock and I shot from every possible angle. I guess it ended up being “Multiple Perspectives” instead. What I like about this exercise, though, is that it shows you how different one image can be just by moving your body or your focal point around the subject.
In any case, it was cold and windy, and everyone was inside where it was warm. My daughter was a trooper. But the best part was the little surprise we had just before we finished. All of a sudden my daughter started shouting, “Oh oh oh look, mom, look!” You’ll have to scroll all the way through to see what it was. Then travel around the blog circle to see how other photographer’s interpreted the challenge.
Be sure to continue around the blog circle and see Allison Fay Chewning’s interpretation.
Talking about Mother’s Day in March? But it’s so far away!
I know it might seem early but the first spring-like day is when everyone starts coming out of hibernation. April is nearly booked already! And since I want all moms to come out from behind the camera and be captured with your children, I’m making it easy for you! I’m scheduling one mini session in April and one in May. This is also a great gift idea for Dads to gift – a mini photo shoot with your children *hint hint*.
There are so many variations for this session too. It doesn’t just have to be you and your children. It can be generations — your grandmother, your mother and you. Your mother, you and your sisters. Your mother, you and your children. You and your children. Just you! Please note, this is not a mini session just for children.
I want Moms in the picture.
Send me an e-mail through the contact form above with your date and time preference. Sessions will be held on location – yet to be determined but somewhere local to the Main Line. Sessions will begin 9am through 11am and again at 3:30 to 5:30 pm. There are only 8 sessions per day, so don’t wait to book yours.
